Out Of The Blue…

A few weeks ago, I encountered a flier around the house about a a competition from Vodafone and The Mentor on RTÉ for business mentoring sessions on a list of preset topics (8 or 10 topics available, with instructions to choose 3 preferred topics). I decided to give it a try, figuring nothing would come of it and my highly tuned SpamAssassin setup would pick off any spam sent my way as a result of supplying one of my email addresses. So I forgot all about it.

I got a very unexpected email today. It seems I am one of the winners. So I should have a mentoring session in a few weeks time. Should be interesting and the timing is quite nice as well. 🙂

In other news, the light of the real world drew closer after my second exam today. So far, I’m happy with how they have gone. Once I get past Wednesday, things will get much easier, since I’ve a 12 day gap until my final exam and will actually be reacquinted with concepts known as sleep and “the lie in”… 🙂

People Are Idiots…

Dear God are people stupid. There is too much crap about this online as it is, so my thoughts are brief:

  1. US Trademarks don’t apply outside of the US. They have to be registered in other places, like Ireland and Europe. Stupid Americans.
  2. I really doubt Tim O’Reilly was directly involved. This is a PR mess, I doubt the guy who founded the company runs the PR Dept
  3. Idiots who voe to stop buying O’Reilly books are clueless. This is a simply a PR mess, they still publish good tech books by knowledgeable authors. They just need better PR people
  4. Enough about Web 2.0 already, who gives a damn, it’s just a buzz word.

Light at the End of the Tunnel…

One exam down and 3 to go.

So far, things have been going well. I guess what people say about final year is true, it is mainly just an endurance test.

As some should hopefully notice, I’ve changed the theme on WordPress. I’ll apply some hack to have an IPv6 check later on (if this makes no sense to you, don’t worry, you’re just not able to see Kame). I’ve also stopped outsourcing my blogroll to del.icio.us since I rarely use del.icio.us. I’ll probably pull a HTML export of my blogroll from Bloglines account, which is my RSS reader of choice and thus the most accurate list.

There’s not much to tell in other news, I just don’t have time to do anything at the moment.

Fluke…

I got a pleasent surprise a few minutes ago, flicking around the movie channels on Sky+. I stumbled into Coldblooded, one of my all time favourite films, which at just begun a few minutes earlier. (It’s a hilarious black comedy film; Jason Priestly is a newly appointed hit-man who takes yoga and has no remorse. Think Grosse Point Blank, with lots and lots of extra sadistic black humour. 🙂 )

I’ve been looking for it on DVD for years, but it doesn’t appear to have ever been released on DVD, or even VHS for that matter. Horray for Sky! It’s scheduled again in the early hours of Thursday morning, so I’ve already set it up to record for me. Now all I have to do is work out some way to encode it in XviD off the Sky+ box…

Slow Down…

So, my fyp is finally behind me. I managed to finish the report a day early and submit it before what I suspect was chaos yesterday afternoon. Besides, I had appointments to keep yesterday afternoon as well.

As of now, I’m officially studying full time, so I’ve still got a boring life, with not a lot to report.

One change that is noticible is that I’ve stopped testing and got around to deploying Drupal as the CMS for www.conall.net, mainly because I’ve gotten lazy maintaining any content on it.
