About Time…

I suppose I really should post something here, to justify (to myself at least) that this blog isn’t completely dead.

Christmas was good and uneventful (excluding when I climbed out onto a frosty roof on Christmas Day to fix the Sky+ satellite dish which blowing around after it was badly installed a few days earlier).

Now college has begun again and I’m quite busy at the moment since semesters and thus subjects change at the start of February. Work is also keeping me busy, there’s always something that needs to be fixed somewhere. At least I’ve gotten around to playing with FreeBSD properly now that I perrsonally have 2 sandboxes to play with. I am quite impressed by the ease of administration of FreeBSD. Definitely something to consider if compiling almost everything from source (disk space/CPU permmitting) or for a stability/reliability point of view…

While FreeBSD is intersting, I think I’m still going to remain a loyal Debian user, particularly when I order a Debian pre-installed dedicated server, since it looks like box.nestdesign.com (aka ns5) is going back to where it came from. I might even be nice and let the existing users on box migrate over to my box…

In college, a few assignments recently have involved submitting programs written in any language. So I’ve started to play around with Python, which is a very interesting language. Clean syntax and quite easy to write scripts and algorithms in, which is contributing to my preference for Python over (icky!!) Perl (which I’ve also started looking into by beginning to read Learning Perl – I figure I probably need the ability to read Perl scripts to spot stupid issues that could be problems for me…).

Since I’ve been busy in college, I haven’t had a proper chance to test my new toy, a Nikon Coolpix 5200 digital camera, which will save me the small fortune I’ve been spending getting APS films developed onto CD-Rs. Apart from the delay in shipping it to me due to the lack of stock after Christmas shopping, Nomatica seem to be quite good for digital cameras and accompaniments.

Now, I should probably get some sleep before college and further considerations towards getting a V800 in a special offer in Carphone Warehouse. I do want it, but there’s a slight issue about it’s iSync support and PalmOne support (or official lack there of). At least it appears I can fool things into thinking a V800 is a K700. *ponders*

Also, is it just me or is everyone fleeing the country at the moment? Probably because of the weather…
