I haven't gotten around to looking at it too much, but dpkg --get-selections was the way I was going. I do want to have some extra features such as passwordless, locked down ssh keys (since I'd be sshing as root between machines) and an excludes list so that some packages don't get transferred over (eg Apache 2, etc...) I guess I should make the script properly so it packages into a deb nicely, so I could even submit it to Debian at some point... Thank you.
