Moving…
I’ve decided over the next few weeks, in between college and actual work (of the paying variety), I’m going to migrate various parts of my website from the numerous servers it’s currently on to trastevere, my name for the server I’ve gotten with whats-his-name. I’m also going to clean up and fix parts of the site, such as the stylesheet, the photo gallery and the import the old MT blog archives into Wordpress for a start….
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been developing a general thirst for techy/nerdy knowledge. It started by properly signing up and paying for a Safari account to gain access to more than the 50 odd books in the TCD Safari account. So far, I’ve found it useful, and will continue to do so, especially since I’ve decided (after kicking up a bit of a thread on the topic of Cisco Certifications on SAGE-IE) I’d like to sit and get a CCNA this summer, before I get to 4th year. So my plan is to go get the Self Study Library and use my Safari account to skim through a few other books (I’m already using it to read about interesting things like LDAP, FreeBSD and various things about Mac OS X. Hopefully, all that and my college work will keep my going for a little while…
In college, it’s that usual time of year, group work projects are starting up again. So far, I have 2 (well 3, but a group of 2 doesn’t count…), the first has been a little bumpy and confrontational (following my group work experience/tradition), the newest one looks quite interesting, randomly assigned group I’m quite happy to be in and the project is assessed on documentation submitted more than code. I’m quite tempted to whip up a few scripts in Perl (yes, I swallowed my pride and started reading Learning Perl, mainly to read and understand other people’s scripts) or Python to parse the logs of whatever version control system we use (I’m suggesting Subversion, of course
to simplify such tasks…
At least I can’t wait for my well deserved 3 week break starting next Friday. I’m planning on dissappearing off to Wexford, as per usual for a few days away from (almost) everything. Ciara and Thog are coming with me of course. After that, Ciara and I are considering going to Belfast for a day trip sometime after my birthday (which is Easter Sun and the start of DST this year), mainly to go shopping for clothes we can’t find in the new Dundrum Town Centre. It’s a shame we still haven’t found somewhere online which will ship Old Navy clothes to Ireland.
